Robert Frosts The Road Not Taken The Definition Of Success

Success is not easy to achieve. In Robert Frost’s famous poem â€Å"The Road Not Taken†, the main character describes his success in saying â€Å"Two roads diverged in a wood, and †¦ I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.† In order to become successful it takes hard work and dedication. Not only that but one must be determined to achieve success. Not many people are willing to go down this path. Success is defined as â€Å"accomplishment of what is desired or aimed at, achievement...† (New Webster’s Dictionary and Thesaurus of the English Language, 988). As noted, success is achieved by someone who has the desire to reach their goal. The New Webster’s Dictionary and Thesaurus of the English Language defines success as â€Å"the†¦show more content†¦By doing so this ensures that the students with the best grades and GPA have a higher possibility in getting into the best universities, therefore; they succeed in life. Students also strive to achieve the best grades in order to become valedictorian and show the universities that they are serious about their studies and prove to them that they are the best fit for their school. However this is not the only type of success there is. Another form of success is familial success. Familial success can come from a numerous ways. Although many people may not see family as a form of success, like money or fame, it sure can be the best form of success a working parent may have. Nowadays it’s most likely that both parents in a household work which results in them missing out on experiencing their children grow due to their jobs. If both parents are able to maintain a stable job, provide for their family, and be able to spend quality time with their children that may be considered the greatest success they are striving for. The children of full time working parents may see spending quality time with their parents as the greatest form of success, and not really focus on the monetary because they are able to enjoy having their parents around. The Branch Between The Old Covenant And The New Covenant...

The branch between the Old Covenant (OC) and the New Covenant (NC) is, for many, a debatable issue. The main topics for these debates are on salvation coming from the OC Law (Mosaic Law/ Torah) that one must â€Å"work† to accomplish, or salvation coming from faith in the NC alone. Many theological genres have sprouted up throughout the year’s arguing the relevance of the OC Laws (Jewish Torah), and the â€Å"Law of the Spirit† as Paul states in Romans 8:2. Because of these different views, various doctrine have become scattered throughout the world. In this essay, the main theme will be to uncover the connection between the OC Law and the Gospel as spoken by Paul. â€Å"The Law of the Spirit† that Paul teaches, is ultimately the same as the OC Law throughout the Torah, but the NC demonstrates Christ’s fulfillment of that Law and the New Commandment to Love, which is the completion of the Law. To uncover the connection of the OC Law and the NC Law we first need to, briefly, look at the OC terms and practices. Judaism was God’s chosen nation (Jhn 4:22) to preach his commands and demonstrate his singular divine attributes as well as being a loving loving creator. God proved this by providing the Torah to the Jewish nation and promising to Abraham that he would be a â€Å"father of many nations† (Rom. 4:17-18). The first term to understand is Torah. Schindler’s List A Film Review Essay Example For Students

Schindler’s List: A Film Review Essay Schindler’s List Set in the most hideous period of universe history,Schindler’s Listtells the existent life narrative of Oscar Schindler. Set in Krakow ghetto of German occupied Poland,Schindler’s Listtakes a expression at the life and development of Oscar Schindler, a Nazi profiteer who changed the class of tonss of Polish Jews. Despite originally siding with the Nazis, Schindler goes on to salvage the lives of over a 1000 Jews, who are deemed as indispensable for his enamel mill. The film is an unbelievable heroic poem of Schindler and the Judaic workers ( called Schindlerjuden ) he risked his life to salvage. We will write a custom essay on Schindler’s List: A Film Review specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Unlike in other modern films,Schindler’s Listis shot in black and white. While black-and-white movie is non disused, few films of our clip period use it and those that do frequently make non utilize it to the best of their ability. This component is one of the grounds that makeSchindler’s Liststand out from other movies. Steven Spielberg, the manager of the film, chose to utilize black-and-white to better put up the historical atmosphere World War II. I believe his did this because many people psychologically associate WWII and the 1930s without colour movies or picture taking. In doing this pick, we as viewing audiences are put into the right mentality of the epoch on screen. While this makes the force and thematic battle of the movie more impactful, it besides helps to stress any of the clip displacements or critical scenes shot in colour. Like theWizard of Oz, this consequence focuses the attending of the viewing audiences and alterations their psychological mentalit y. Clearly, the manufacturers realized thatSchindler’s Listwould non hold the same ocular consequence or cinematic presence in history if they had non chosen to hit it in black-and-white. Another of import movie consequence that Steven Spielberg put intoSchindler’s Listis the usage of parallel redacting. This consequence, more normally known as crosscutting, weaves several different scenes, and in a more larger sense feelings, together with one another. While this is of class a fun ocular aesthetic for the mean spectator to see, Spielberg does it to contrast the poorness and devastation of the Judaic people during the Holocaust with the luxury and wealth of the Nazis opinion over them. An illustration is the scene splicing of the Krakow ghetto and Schindler’s new flat. I believe Spielberg does this to demo the sarcasm of that part of World War II ; good benefits for Schindler come from another’s heartbreaking loss. This cinematography technique helps to accurately demo us the bitter, self-contradictory clip period that of universe history that can non be forgotten but has been overcome. There is a scene in the movie where the Schindlerjuden present Schindler a ring engraved with the Talmudic phrase: â€Å"Whoever saves one life saves the universe entire.† This phrase absolutely represents one of the chief subjects ofSchindler’s List: one individual can do an impact. subject can be seen reasonably clearly throughout the movie. Chiefly, we see this subject through the supporter Oscar Schindler. After salvaging Itzhak Stern from a concentration cantonment, we know that Schindler goes on to salvage the lives of 1000s of Judaic workers from mass extinction by the Nazi Party. Although we know that 1000000s were killed by the Nazi Party at the clip the Holocaust, if Schindler had non saved them, six times the sum of people who really be lost ( the figure of posterities that came from Schindler Jews ) . Another illustration in the film of one individual doing a difference is the miss in the ruddy coat. Spielberg lone uses colour in four occasions in the movie and one of them is on a little miss. Why would he make that? He did it to demo the spectator that Schindler is get downing to see the horror around him and hold oning that what the German nazi are making is evil. It is because of this immature kid, who even more astoundingly does non even have to talk to him, that all of Schindler’s actions and positions are changed. .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 , .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 .postImageUrl , .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 , .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853:hover , .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853:visited , .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853:active { border:0!important; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853:active , .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853 .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8fee4e92132c9a430a5811bdad26a853:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Intercultural communication and cross-cultural man EssayAnother of import subject ofSchindler’s Listis the relaxation of denial. This subject can be seen many times throughout the film and in the history of the Holocaust itself. Looking at Oscar Schindler, we see that throughout much of the lifting action of the movie, he cares small to none about the wretchedness and persecution that the Jews in Krakow are confronting. He cares merely about the epicurean life style and net incomes that he can acquire from victimizing the Jews. It’s easier to turn a blind oculus and bury himself in his ain greedy ideas than acknowledge the atrociousnesss being committed aroun d him. Schindler is non the lone 1, though. Many of the Jews working for Schindler and life in Krakow garbage to admit the horrors of their state of affairs. Even when forced from their places, shipped into cramped ghettos, many still insist on seeing the good of the state of affairs, even as Jews merely like them are being killed at random. Another illustration of denial is the scene where runner Poldek Pfefferberg’s married woman concerns aloud about the rumours of extinction cantonments. She’s heard how tonss of Hebrews are being gassed and cremated at Auschwitz. Alternatively of being comforted or reassured by her fellow sick persons, they angrily rebuke her and take a firm stand that would neer go on. Deep down, I am certain they knew the truth, but it was easier for them to deny it than face the world of the horror environing them. It’s rather easy to see why a movie of this emotional deepness about the Holocaust would do an impact on the universe. Spielberg was motivated to do this movie because he wanted to happen a manner to do Holocaust victims more than merely tragic statistics. Traditionally, when we are taught about the Holocaust, we are genuinely overwhelmed by the horrors and atrociousnesss that were committed and this overpowering feeling tends to about desensitise to it. We have so much incredulity that this could of all time be allowed to go on that we can’t hold on the full emotional world of it. It is that desensitisation that Spielberg plants ( successfully ) to get the better of. Spielberg achieves his end to pass on the fright and uncertainness the Schindlerjuden had, whether it was while they were in the ghetto, working for Schindler, or siting the train to his mill in Czechoslovakia. The audience feels like they are actively partaking in the action on screen alternatively of sit ting passively by. We emotionally run into each character and give ourselves to following their journey’s result. This viewer-to-character connexion was end Spielberg made the intent of his movie. By genuinely humanising all of these characters, the audience is forced to cover with the atrociousnesss that the screen and history show us. He needed every spectator to see and experience invested in each of the characters ofSchindler’s List.He didn’t desire them to walk out of their theatre and return back to their everyday manner of thought. Spielberg wanted to remind the universe of the horror of World War II and do it so that whenever race murder or favoritism was seen in the universe, every spectator of this film would non settle to passively sit by and make nil.

Employee and Labour Relations American industry

Question: Describe about the Employee and Labour Relations for American industry. Answer: About City of St. Albans City of St. Albans was founded in the year 1894. It has grown steadily over the years and serves an area of approximately 3.6 sq meters (Saxon, 2014). There are a total of 24 police officers in the department. It is a full service and community oriented police department. It is located in Franklin Country (Saintalbanspolice.com, 2016). There are a number of important tasks played by the department, such as bike patrol, drug investigation, special enforcement unit and others (Saintalbanspolice.com, 2016). The other officers are entitled the responsibility of administrative duties. Background The City of St. Albans has a trade union consisting of the police force. The employees are facing serious issues due to which they are demanding a contract renewal. The cost of living in the United States of America is increasing at a rapid rate. The cost of bare necessities as well as the luxuries is increasing day by day (Winters, 2013). The citizens need to have more income in order to enjoy a secure and modest lifestyle. The cost of food, housing, healthcare, transportation and others is rising at a steady rate. The approximate average cost for a single adult is $4520 and the annual cost of living expenses for the same adult is $54,240 (Bls.gov, 2016). The average monthly expenditure of a married couple is $56, 406 (approx.) (Bls.gov, 2016). This implies that the police officers should earn a considerable amount of money in order to sustain in a country like USA. The Issue The primary issue is the lack of pay hike in the last 10 years for the police officers. We are having the same compensation structure over the years, which is making us difficult to sustain our family. In a country like the USA, it is not possible to meet the increasing expenses with this outdated compensation structure (Brock, 2013). We have also found out that our compensations are below the national levels. Our peers are earning a salary which is far above than ours. We have the same skills, expertise, experience and identical job roles. The only differentiating factor is our remuneration. Even after demonstrating excellent work performance, our remuneration is not competitive and is far below the market average (Brock, 2013). This is an area of concern to us and we would like you to probe into this matter. Present compensation structure The average salary of Police Officers at St. Albans is $36,368 (Saintalbanspolice.com, 2016). The salary package of new Police Officer is approximately $30,457 (Saintalbanspolice.com, 2016). There is an increase in the hourly pay rate or salary structure after gaining sufficient work experience, usually applicable to all the industries. However, this is not the case in St. Albans. We are working for several years in this organizations, still we do not receive a competitive salary. It is estimated that the average income of the police officers after several years of service would be $43,528, however, we are receiving a much lower compensation package (Bls.gov, 2016). National compensation structure The national compensation package of the police officers in the United States of America is $61, 270 with the mean hourly wage being $29.45 (Bls.gov, 2016). Employment Employment RSE Mean hourly wage Mean annual wage Wage RSE 653,740 0.6 % $29.45 $61,270 0.8 % Fig: Compensation Structure of Police Officers in U.S.A Source: Bls.gov 2016 It is evident from this chart that our peers are drawing a huge amount of salary as compared to us. The difference between our salaries and the national average in very high, which is a disturbing trend. Need for competitive salary It is a common belief that giving compensation to the employees is a huge burden for the organization. However, this is not true. You should not perceive the salary as an expenditure, but rather as an investment. The human resource of an organization is the most important aspect of a organization (Armstrong Taylor, 2014). It decides the success or the failure of an organization. It is not important whether the organization is included in the Fortune 500 list or it is a newly conceived organization. The important factor in organizational effectiveness is the competitive salary offered to the employees (Mowday, Porter Steers, 2013). The salary of an organization is the reflection of the skills possessed by the employees of the organization. There should be a transparency in the compensation structure so that the employees feel motivated in the professional environment. It is important for the organization to design a compensation structure which is equivalent or more than the similar organizations in the market (Wong, Gygax Wang, 2015). This would help the organization to retain talented employees in the system. It is essential for the human resource manager to design suitable salary package for each individual job description. The salary package should not be based on the skills, expertise and experience of the police officers, but it should be based on the level of complexity of the job position. If you are hiring a specialized skill set, then the employees would be engaging in salary negotiations (Snell, Morris Bohlander, 2015). You should realize the importance of compensation and benefits in the organization and for this purpose it is important to gather sufficient amount of knowledge. One of the primary reasons of the competitive salary package is the increased cost of living in the United States (Van Parijs Vanderborght, 2015). It is the most expensive country in the world and hence we need sufficient salary to sustain in the country. Benefits of salary hike There are several benefits of competitive salary package- employee engagement, lower attrition rate, enhanced employee satisfaction rate, increased productivity, greater co-operation in the workplace and others (Osibanjo et al., 2014). The designing of suitable salary package would result in higher level of employee engagement as it would act as a motivating factor for the employees. If the employees observe that they are getting competitive salary package, then they would be inspired to perform their job in a better way. It would increase the productivity of the employees. This would lead to increased reputation of the organization. One of the most significant benefits of a salary hike is the lower attrition level (Terera Ngirande, 2014). The employees would prefer to stick to the organization for a longer period of time (Chang, Wang Huang, 2013). They would not search for job in other organizations. The cost of hiring a new employee is much more than retaining an existing employe e (Javed Javed, 2013). The increased job satisfaction leads to greater co-ordination in the workplace between the employees. Designing a competitive pay package The process of designing a competitive compensation structure is a great challenge for the organization (Gomez-Mejia, Berrone Franco-Santos, 2014). The following procedures can be followed while devising a compensation scheme- Job Analysis- This is the process of analyzing the vacant positions in the organization. This step involves the generation of the job description which includes a summary of the job tasks, job title, list of core responsibilities, required qualifications, experience and other key parameters of the particular job opening (Gomez-Mejia, Berrone Franco-Santos, 2014). Job Evaluation- This process involves the determination of the relative value of the jobs in a particular organization. The outcome of this step is the formulation of an internal structure or internal hierarchy of the jobs. There are three methods of job evaluation such as the ranking, classification and the point method (most popular one) (Gomez-Mejia, Berrone Franco-Santos, 2014). This method is useful for aligning the pay structure in a strategic maner. This method also makes sure that the employees perceive the compensation structure to be fair and just. Pay Policy Identification- The process of determining if the particular organization wants to stay ahead, lag or be equivalent to the current market standard is known as pay policy identification. This policy would affect the retention of the employees. The various pay policies usually varies across the job categories and the different job levels. Pay Survey Analysis- This process involves the comparison of the various compensation data collected from various surveys. This process involves the collection of data from external sources which measures a number of parameters such as salary, bonus, benefits and others (Gomez-Mejia, Berrone Franco-Santos, 2014). This makes sure that the organization has competitive compensation structure. Pay Structure Creation- This is the final step which involves the merging of the internal compensation structure with the external market pay structures. A simple regression can be used to develop the final pay scale of the organization (Gomez-Mejia, Berrone Franco-Santos, 2014). The final step should consist of incorporating parameters such as pay grade, pay range, scale of pay and others. Power of Unionized Police force The group of employees which is intended for the representation of the collective interests of the employees in terms of working hours, wages, working conditions, benefits and other issues is termed as labour unions (Ashford.edu, 2016). The labor unions lead to the collective bargaining power of the employees (Ashford.edu, 2016). This also gives a platform to the employees to communicate their grievances to the management. Our grievances are reviewed by the union representatives and the existence of the grievance is established. The union representatives have found out that the issue of the poor compensation structure is a legitimate one and hence it should be addressed by the management (Ashford.edu, 2016). Our grievance has been communicated to the union steward and he has fully supported us regarding the content of the grievance. Proposition We are proposing the following points to the Governing Board of the City of Albans. We hope that our grievances would be given sufficient importance- Increase in the monthly compensation of police forces Minimal annual compensation- $61, 270 (approx.) Introduction of benefits and perks Yearly increment Cooperation of the management Competitive compensation package We are hoping for a positive reply from your side as our issues are genuine and needs your immediate attention. The management would decide the future course of action and it would greatly affect the performance of the human resource. Please consider the issue and we are looking forward to the best solution provided by you. References Armstrong, M., Taylor, S. (2014).Armstrong's handbook of human resource management practice.
